What happens if an athlete requires a medication or method that is prohibited according to the Prohibited List?
Find Out
An athlete, in conjunction with their doctor
Can apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) that would allow them to use a substance or method while competing without it being considered an Anti-Doping Rule Violation and subject to applicable sanctions.
Request TUE
- These TUEs are provided when:
- The athlete has a clearly diagnosed medical condition.
- The use of the substance will not provide a performance enhancement beyond their normal state of health.
- There is no reasonable permitted therapeutic alternative treatment indicated for the medical condition.
- The need to use this substance or method is not a consequence of the previous use (without a TUE) of a substance or method that was prohibited at that time.
